22 maps. 5.25 x 8.75 inches
A Very Good copy of this very Scarce 1820 Map of the United States by Benjamin Warner. Onionskin style paper, map measures 16.25" x 25", folded in fourteen sections. White ground with colors to enhance the engraving. This is one of the earliest maps to depict the United States as extending coast to coast from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.
The map is bound between thin boards, accompanied by twenty-one maps of the world, of continents, and of countries, in what seems to be a custom atlas. No title page or explanatory text of any sort. Among the maps: South America engraved by W. Kneass, with cartography by Olmadilla and Malaspina; North America from Arrowsmith's large Map etc.; Germany engraved by John Bower in Philadelphia; France from Belleymes 4 Sheet Map; Chart of the World according to Mercators Projection; 3-section Double Globe view from Arrowsmith's Map of the World.
Next to the whiteness of Warner's map, the others are notably tanned. Engravings are sharp and clear in their details in all cases.
