• Paper covered boards have color illustration, inked title, and cloth spine. 
• Boards show some smudges, rubbing, heavy edgewear.  Corners are worn, with exposed board.  See photos.  
• Gray cloth spine has no text and is clean, with softened ends. 
• Binding is tender, with some signs of separation at front cover and opening pages. 
• Illustrated end papers/ pastedowns show some cracking at front cover. 
• Gift inscription on fep facing Title Page; inscription continues on Dedication page.  
• Illustrations, 47 color plates, are bright and clear.   
• Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits a few marks, smudges, signs of handling in margins, two tiny corner turndowns.  See photos. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

A clearly loved copy of this brilliantly illustrated book which includes 47 color plates to accompany the seasonal poems.  Inscribed to Dorothy with Merry Christmas Wishes in 1914, and then again in 1935 from Dorothy to another little girl. 

This is an uncommon Volland title in this large format, with beautiful fairy illustrations by comic artist M. T. "Penny" Ross (1881-1937), occasionally incorporating 1914 technology like airplanes, phones, and phonographs into the scenes.  Beside the plates, the book features Art Nouveau fairy endpapers, black and white decoration to title page.
