A very good copy of this first edition work in the publisher's tan cloth, with the scarce DJ preserved under Mylar.  Published by The Studio in London, this volume is authored by Raymond Firth (1901-2002), eminent ethnologist and anthropologist from New Zealand.  Richly illustrated with black and white photographs, the book is intended for a lay audience interested in the intersection of indigenous art and modern art in the Western world.

Ex-library, though not in the usual way.  A bookplate on one fep reads "John Lane Mullins M.A. gave this book to St. Sophia's Library."  Mullins (1857-1939) was an Australian politician, devout Catholic, and book collector.  This gifting bookplate may have been designed by Adrian Feint (1894–1971).  Feint was an Australian printmaker and bookplate artist who designed a plate for use by St. Sophia's Library.
