Vivid first person account of World War I in France, by an American serving with the French armed forces. Alden Brooks (1862-1964), Harvard Class of 1905, was living in France when war broke out, and he served both as an ambulance driver and a press correspondent. Brooks remained in France at the war's end; this volume was first published in Paris in 1929 under the title Battle in 1918: As Seen by an American in the French Army.
