Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Black cloth covers show some smudges, a ding to cover edge, splitting at shoulder, edgewear.  Corners are frayed, with exposed board.  See photos.  
  • Spine has gilt text effaced and is dull, with chipped, frayed ends.  See photos.
  • Binding is secure. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some toning, bookseller marks. 
  • Signed on half-title page.
  • Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits marginal toning, some chips to page edges where cut for reading.  See photos. 
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges.

A very good copy of this signed first edition by English author and philosopher Aldous Huxley (1894-1963).  The collection of short stories and a novella includes "Chawdron," "The Rest Cure," "The Claxtons," and "After the Fireworks."

First edition of 842 copies, 800 of which were for sale.  This is copy #350.  Signed by the author on half-title page.  Typography by Carl Purington Rollins.  Distributed in America by Random House.
