• Spines have gilt text and are clear, with chipped, frayed ends.
• Bindings are secure; pages open to stitches in places. 
• Pastedowns and feps have some light foxing, owner's marks.
• Interiors are gently age-toned, exhibit some marginal toning, light edgewear, some corners turned back, tiny chips to foot edges as at pg. 259.  See photos. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

Complete first edition copy, in the publisher's bindings, of this 1915 study of Chinese characters, their history, forms, and meanings.  Compiled by the French Jesuit missionary, medical doctor and sinologist Léon Wieger (1856-1933) and translated from French into English by L. Davrout.  Two Lexicons showing the characters arranged by order of sounds and radicals complete the work.
