A Very Good copy of the Rare First Edition of this classic guide to mixing drinks.  Unique binding of red cloth wraps with illustration, titled in gilt: "How to Mix 'Em."  A slender volume, in pocket reference format.  Ninety-six pages with about 700 recipes, followed by an Index and six blank pages for Memoranda.

The author, Jacques Straub (1865-1919), born in Switzerland, became one of the most famous wine and spirits experts of his era.  Straub was the manager of the famous Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky before becoming the wine steward at Chicago's Blackstone Hotel.  He authored Drinks as part of Hotel Monthly's "handbooks series."  Drinks includes a surprising number of drinks that were thought to have been invented later; it also has a chapter on wine and an illustrated guide to glassware.

In addition to its unique wraps, this copy is distinctive for its attribution.  Inside the front cover is penned "This is the Property of DeMolay Alumni.  Presented by Leslie Blewett."  DeMolay International is a youth leadership organization with Masonic origins for young men ages 12 to 21, and the Alumni continue in their fellowship and support of DeMolay chapters.
