Before the internet, before phone books, local publishers sometimes coordinated and published directories for profit, bolstered by ad sales. In this case, it also features a history of Germans settled in the New York area, information on local areas, and a directory of addresses, listed with permission. Interspersed throughout text are B&W portrait plates of notable New Yorkers of German descent. 227 pages + 29 pages of advertisements. 5.25 x 8.75 inches.

Text is in German, except for some ads in the back.

Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Burgundy buckram sports bright gilt text and decoration on front and spine, along with blind-tooling.
• Portrait plates are in nice condition, with intact tissue guards.
• Binding is secure.
• Between title page and frontis, gutter is cracked with sewing visible.
• Covers exhibit minimal edgewear.
• Tail of spine is crushed; Head of spine is softened.
• Back cover has two 1/4" white spots near corners.
• Interior is gently age toned, more prominent at margins.
• More aging is apparent along page edges, along with some wear.
• Text block edges are dusty, with light foxing.
• Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
