Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Contemporary calf covers have red spine label and gilt text.
  • Boards show some wear, smudges, scuffing, edgewear.  Corners are worn, with exposed board.
  • Spine has gilt text on red label and is clear with firm ends.
  • Binding is expertly rebacked, with original spine strip laid in place.  
  • New end papers/ pastedowns accompany rebacking of binding; original inner fep has owner's inscription.  See photos.  
  • Interior exhibits scattered light foxing, some smudges.  
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have a few marks.

A very good copy, expertly rebacked, with supple paper and well-spaced very legible text, of this four-part volume of texts from Revolutionary France.  Written by various authors who were exiled for insufficient loyalty to the new Republican government, translated into English and published in London.  Includes personal accounts by deportees and an alphabetical list, by name, of those sent away.  Very scarce in commerce.

Inscribed on the front fep: "Isaac B. Fox's /Property Bought /May 10th AD 1813 /Price $3,50c"
