A scarce copy, in custom binding, of this standard reference work on dance by the French ballet critic François H.J. Castil-Blaze (1784-1857). Crisp and very readable, notwithstanding the foxing which is heavy in places.
From the early 1820s to 1832 Castil-Blaze's writings in the Journal des débats made him the leading ballet critic in Paris. Several of his works became standard reference works, among them the present volume.
Ex-Libris Theodore S. Bartwink (1928-2014), longtime Executive Director of th Harkness Foundation for Dance in New York City.
Printed in Paris at the Imprimerie de Pommeret et Moreau.
