• Grass green superfine covers have gilt ruling on front cover. 
• Boards show a few marks, edgewear.  Corners are scuffed, with exposed board.  See photos.
• Spine has gilt decoration and text and is bright with frayed ends.  See photos.
• Binding is secure. 
• Marble patterned end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
• Feps show scattered foxing, have a gift inscription.  See photos.
• Frontispiece, a portrait of Whitman, is present and has intact tissue guard; a little foxing.  See photos.
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
• Text block edges have some chipping where pages were cut for reading, some foxing.  See photos.

A very nice copy of Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman (1819-1892), with material included by the poet's literary executors in 1897.  A compact volume published by G.P. Putnam in London, sitting nicely in the hand, with very readable page layouts.  It retains many features of larger format editions, including a portrait of the poet, author's note with facsimile signature, and Index of First Lines.
