First U.S. Edition of this classic account of Tibet.  Publisher's black cloth with tan titles on the spine, issued by Claude Kendall in 1932, following the first French edition in 1929 and the first English edition (London, 1931).  Interior is tanned, photographic illustrations clear and legible.

Alexandra David-Néel (1868-1969), French-Belgian explorer, spiritualist, Buddhist, anarchist, opera singer, -- spent fourteen years inside Tibet, studying and seeking to absorb their culture and wisdom.  Her writings would influence the Beats Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, and she continues to be seen as a sort of spiritual travel guide to Eastern Philosophy.

With an introduction by Dr. Jacques-Arsène D'Arsonval, French physicist, physician, and inventor, whose words presented David-Néel's work as scientific investigation.
