Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD- condition.

• Three-quarter leatherbound covers with marbled paper, gilt decoration on spine.  
• Boards show some smudges, scuffing, heavy edgewear.  Corners are frayed, with exposed board.
• Spine with raised bands, gilt ornament and text on a black label is darkened with chipped, scuffed ends.
• Binding is secure.  
• Marble end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
• Frontispiece, a portrait of Moreau, is present. 
• Foldout map is toned, with a small closed tear at binding hinge.  See photos.
• Engraved facsimile copy of Moreau's last letter to his wife is included.
• Map and letter are bound at front of volume, not in accordance with instructions to binder found on last page.  See photos.  
• Interior is age-toned throughout, with staining and moderate to heavy foxing. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.  Text is very readable.
• Text block edges are marbled to match covers.

Compilation of memoirs and military campaigns of the French Republican General Jean Victor Marie Moreau (1763-1813), assembled by the British military writer John Philippart.  Moreau, a General in the Republican Army, also served with Napoleon, until political intrigue and rivalries led to his banishment to the United States in 1804.  He returned to Europe to advise military leaders in their efforts to defeat Napoleon; he was wounded and died in Russia in 1813.
