Hardback set is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Three-quarter calf bindings with green marbled covers are mostly clean.  Boards show a little edgewear.  Corners are bumped.  See photos.  
• Spines have gilt text and are bright with firm ends.
• Bindings are secure. 
• Marble end papers/ pastedowns match covers and show little sign of age or wear.
• Feps have some moderate foxing, marginal toning, owner's marks.
• Frontispiece is present in each volume; shadows on title pages.  See photos.   
• Interiors are gently age-toned, exhibit some shadows in text bock, some foxing, staining to margins.  See photos. 
• First text page of each volume is signed "Sir Henry Wellesley."
• Text block edges have some marks, some staining.

A handsome two-volume set of this first edition of Napoleonic memoirs as recorded by Barry E. O'Meara, surgeon to Napoleon during his exile on St. Helena.  Nicely bound in three-quarter calf, and well-spaced printing makes for a very legible text. 

Napoleon's personal charisma comes through clearly in O'Meara's preface, and in his efforts to capture faithfully Napoleon's conversation.

An interesting association copy; signed on the first page, "Sir Henry Wellesley."  Henry Wellesley was a grandson of Arthur Wellesley, the First Duke of Wellington and hero of England at the Battle of Waterloo.
