Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Contemporary leatherbound covers in midnight blue are richly tooled with gilt filigree borders and gilt bowline knot at center.  
• Boards show some age, repairs at shoulder, edgewear.  Corners are bumped and scuffed.  See photos. 
• Spine with raised bands has gilt text and decoration, a little scuffed but bright with firm ends.
• Binding is intact, a little tender at covers.  Some signs of separation/repair at inside cover hinges.  
• End papers/ pastedowns of pale blue silk moiré have gilt filigree borders.  See photos. 
• Pastedowns and feps have some toning, cataloguer's marks, bookseller sticker. 
• Frontispiece is present and has intact tissue guard.
• Illustrations are bright and clear. 
• Interior exhibits minimal signs of age and wear, a mark at margin Part 1, pg. 11; occasional shadows on pages facing plates.  See photos.  
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have All Edges Gilt.

A fine leather binding and very good paper in this volume showcase the humor and detail of George Cruikshank's illustrations.  Twenty colored plates are accompanied by "points of humor," anecdotes and stories chosen to provide material for the caricaturist's pen. 

George Cruikshank (1792-1878) was hailed during his liftetime as "the modern Hogarth."  In addition to political satire, he illustrated children's stories and fairy tales.  Cruikshank's illustrations reached an international audience when he collaborated with his friend Charles Dickens.
