Pioneering work for its period, presenting homosexuality as sex variance (rather than sex deviance), and presenting individual case studies.  George W. Henry's work was sponsored by the Committee for the Study of Sex Variants, Inc., founded by Jan Gay (aka Helen Reitman).    

Originally published in two volumes, 1941.  This one volume edition appeared in 1948.  Paul B. Hoeber, Inc. was the Medical Book Department of Harper and Brothers.
