• Binding is secure; some looseness at back cover.  See photos.  
• Illustrated pastedowns and feps have some staining, bookseller sticker.  
• Frontispiece in color is present and has intact tissue guard.
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have publisher's ink at head, untrimmed fore and foot edges.

A Very Good copy of this First Edition.  Publisher's garnet cloth with decorations and titles in gilt.  Darkening to the gilt on spine, some staining to the front board.  Interior is bright and unmarked.  Color frontispiece portrait by the author's son Svetoslav Roerich.

In this book, Roerich sets forth his journey through Central Asia and Tibet in the terms of spirit.  It is a record of legends, parables and notes that reveal the different facets of the theme of Shambhala, the Resplendent.
