SIGNED and INSCRIBED by illustrator Meade Spencer as well as by actor Burford Hampden (1898-1986) to Luis van Rooter. Spencer is known for her watercolors, and contributed 15 sketches (some with a touch of color) to this volume. British born Burford Hampden began his acting career in London theater and later moved on to American radio acting. Mexican-born Luis van Rooter also was a notable American radio actor, who went on to become a notable film actor best remembered for his bad-guy roles. Somewhere in the universe, these 3 converged, and shared a unique fascination in Cotswold architecture.

Oversized book is filled with photo plates, as well as layed-in sketches, featuring small stone houses from southwestern England. According to the 5 page intro, the images were chosen according to how well they could be reproduced in the U.S. 143 pages. 11.25 x 15.25 inches.

• Binding is secure, with minimal play.
• Gilt text is faded on front and spine.
• Boards have moderate edgewear and some surface scuffs.
• VAN ROOTEN bookplate on front pastedown.
• Inscription page has moderate foxing, otherwise foxing is minimal, very light and very scattered.
• Small orange bookseller's sticker on front pastedown.
• Interior pages are lightly age toned, with clear print.
• There is an unusual light crease near the page number throughout most of book, as if it was once dropped on something small.
• Text block is dusty with some marks/smudges.
• Book may have other minor signs of age and wear.
