Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition, with a GOOD DJ under Mylar.

• Tan cloth covers with black and brown text and illustration. 
• Boards show some staining at head, edgewear.  Corners are scuffed.  See photos.  
• Spine has black text and is bright with chipped, frayed ends.
• Binding is strong. 
• Illustrated end papers/ pastedowns show some toning, a few marks. 
• Frontispiece is present. 
• Illustrations are bright and clear.  
• Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits minimal signs of age and wear.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have a few marks.  
• Illustrated DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
• DJ has spine panel missing, edgewear, a chip to lower corner, bumping and closed tears.  See photos.

A very good copy of this rare first edition of tales of the Tewa people of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Publisher's decorated boards, with dust jacket (no spine panel) preserved under Mylar.  Interior is bright, with ten full page color illustrations and generous typeface for reading aloud.

Ahlee James, who collected and retold these tales, spent three years living with the Tewa at San Ildefonso. The stories are accompanied by illustrations mostly by San Ildefonso artist Awa Tsireh (1898-1955).
