Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition, with a GOOD DJ under Mylar.

• Pale gray covers have gilt title. 
• Boards show a small mark at front cover, some faint staining at foot edge, edgewear.  Corners are sharp.  See photos. 
• Spine has gilt text and is bright with firm ends.
• Binding is secure. 
• Pastedowns and feps have some light foxing, staining, a small closed tear at front edge of front fep.  See photos.

• Illustrations, black and white photographs, black ink drawings and woodcuts, color photographs, are bright and clear.  
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges are foxed.  
• DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
• Illustrated DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners and spine ends, closed tears and chipping along head edge, bumping along foot edge, is price-clipped on front return.  See photos.

A very good copy, with dust jacket, of the first edition of this book which chronicles, in photographs and text, the end of the colonial era in Kenya.  Peter H. Beard (1938-2020), American artist, photographer, diarist, and writer, first went to Africa at the age of 17.  The photographs he took then and on three subsequent journeys are the visual foundation of this volume.
