A generally very good copy of this 1812 edition of Thomas Mays' original History of 1647, which had passed into extreme scarcity by the 19th century. With numerous old repairs to the leather covers, and missing the plate depicting the Houses of Parliament. Following Mays' History are appended three tracts, known as Ludlow's Letters, originally published at Amsterdam in 1691 and 1692.
As per the bookplate at the front pastedown, this volume came from the library of the United University Club in London, a gentlemen's club founded in 1821 for graduates of Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
Printed in London by Robert Wilks, and sold by White, Cochrane & Co.
