A very good copy of the privately printed Catalogue, with 164 plates illustrating 762 objects, of the collection of arms and armor assembled by Carl Otto von Kienbusch (1884-1976). Kienbusch, a New York City tobacco merchant, spent over sixty years acquiring his collection, with which he lived in his townhouse. He bequeathed the collection to the Philadelphia Art Museum.
Kienbusch named the collection Kretzschmar von Kienbusch after a Saxon forebear of his. The collection is both ode and testament to the technical skill and artistry of the European armorers who wrought these items of protection, destruction, and display.
