• Boards show some scuffing, edgewear.  Some corners are bumped, scuffed. 
• Spines have raised bands, gilt text and ruling, and are bright with firm ends.
• Bindings are strong. 
• End papers/ pastedowns, some marbled, some patterned, show little to no sign of age or wear.
• Frontispieces are present, with intact tissue guards and captions.
• Illustrations are bright and clear, many have tissue guards.
• Interiors are gently age-toned, exhibit marginal toning.  
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have gilt along head, untrimmed fore and foot edges. 
• Ribbon page markers are present.

A very handsome set of this English edition of the works of French author Henri René Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) isssued in 1905 by publisher M. Walter Dunne, by subscription.  This is the Édition Normand, Number 18 of 100 copies printed.  Illustrated from Original Drawings by Eminent French and American Artists.  Garnet leather covers blind stamped with the emblem of the Von Hassel family.

Edition page at front of Volume 1 states this is the Édition Normand, 100 copies printed of which this is #18, signed by Robert Arnot, Managing Editor.
