Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Gray paper covers are mostly clean, with decoration and text in green and pink ink, inset pictorial paper label. 
• Boards show some smudges, edgewear.  Corners are worn, with exposed board.  See photos.
• Gray cloth spine has a few smudges, with softened ends.
• Binding is strong.  
• Illustrated end papers/ pastedowns show little sign of wear.
• Frontispiece is present.
• Illustrations are bright and clear.  
• Interior is gently age-toned, more so at margins.  Exhibits some smudges, some small corner creasing. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

A very good copy of this rare fairy story.  First edition, original paper covered boards with overlaid pictorial label and ink decorations.  A little scuffing to label, and wear to the corners.  Interior is toned in keeping with its age; each page is decorated with ink drawings in pale green.  Full color plate illustrations by Ruth Sypherd Clements are brilliant.
