Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD- condition.

  • Blue cloth covers with gilt text and blind tooled decoration. 
  • Boards show some wear, scuffing, warping, exposure, edgewear.  Corners are bumped, worn, with exposed board.  See photos.
  • Spine is askew, has gilt text and ornament and is a little darkened with crushed, frayed ends.  See photos.
  • Binding has a little play, with a loose signature at pg. 132.  See photos. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some moderate foxing. 
  • Frontispiece, Plate A, is present.
  • Illustrations, hand colored engravings on stone, are clear, plates are age toned, with scattered foxing and some smudges.  See photos. 
  • Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits scattered light foxing.  
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have some marks along head, some foxing.

Publisher's blue cloth with gilt and blindstamping.  Notable are the hand colored engraved illustrations.  Very Good- condition with overall wear to the pocket-sized volume and a loose signature.  Complete and unmarked.

The author, Frederick Hollick (1818-1900) was a 19th-century American physician, sex educator, and author who lectured widely in Philadelphia.  His most notable works include The Origin of Life and The Marriage Guide, both of which focus on teaching healthy sexual practices and behavior, as well as proper knowledge of the reproductive processes and management of diseases.
