A First Edition copy, inscribed, of this critical edition of an Elizabethan drama that the author Michael Egan attributes to William Shakespeare.  Some superficial staining to the boards, in particular Volume II, Book 2, and to the text block edges, but overall a Very Good copy, with interior fresh and unmarked.

The text, an anonymous Elizabethan manuscript titled "Thomas of Woodstock," is argued by Michael Egan (b. 1941) to be a work by William Shakespeare.  Egan contends that this drama should rightly be known as The Tragedy of Richard II Part One.  It would have been composed sometime between 1582 and 1592, a period sometimes referred to Shakespeare's "Lost Years."

The three volumes, spread over four books, include a General Introduction, Synopsis, Text with Variorum Notes, Critical Commentary, and more.

First edition.  Signed and inscribed to Robin Fox by the author on front end paper.
