A very good copy of this important volume which contains the entirety of the proceedings of the trial following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. As per the title page, it includes "a full and verbatim Report of the Testimony of all the Witnesses examined in the whole Trial." Also, "a sketch of the Life of all the Conspirators, and Portraits and Illustrative Engravings of the principal persons and scenes relating to the foul murder and the trial."
Published in Philadelphia by T.B. Peterson & Brothers, the contents were "Prepared on the spot by the Special Correspondents and Reporters of the Philadelphia Daily Inquirer, expressly for this edition."
Inscribed "Howard W. Stepp" on front fep. Howard W. Stepp, Princeton University Class of 1939 (d. 1989) was a long-time swimming coach at the university and actively involved in civic life in Princeton, NJ.
