Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD- condition.

  • Green cloth covers have inked title, blind stamped pattern. 
  • Boards show some wear, smudges, bumps, scuffing, edgewear.  Corners are bumped, scuffed, with exposed board.  See photos.
  • Spine has green text partially effaced and is darkened, with crushed, chipped ends.  See photos.
  • Binding is secure; opens to stitching in a few places, e.g. pg. 208, 272.  See photos. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some staining, pencil marks.  
  • Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits some small chips to page edges, some abrasion in margins on some pages, some stains, light edgewear.  See photos. 
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have some marks.

First edition copy, in Publisher's stamped green cloth, of this scarce novel depicting life in the Welsh Countryside.  Under the Thatch is the last novel by Allen Raine, pseudonym of Anne Adalisa Puddicombe (1836-1908).  A prolific and best-selling novelist, writing under the name Allen Raine, she published seven novels beginning in 1898.  Four more were published posthumously.
